Wellesley Village Church is Searching for a Hand Bell Choir Director

Wellesley Village Church is a community where music is an integral part of our worship and our life together. We engage in a variety of musical styles from traditional hymns and choral anthems to folk, jazz and world music. Our church is looking for a Hand Bell Choir Director to prepare our main group of intergenerational ringers (6 to 15 people) for 3 church services during the academic year (Sept 15 – June 15).

Position available: Sept 15, 2017

Location: Wellesley, MA

Salary: Compensation is 3 stipends of $1000, 1 stipend for each 8 week rehearsal period
finalizing with a performance in worship (Fall/Winter/Spring)

Supervision: This position is under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and works collegially
with the Directors of Music for the 9 am & 10 am weekly services.

• To select music, rehearse, and conduct the main bell choir for the 6 - 8 weeks leading up
to playing in worship (rehearsals usually happen on Sundays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm)

• To encourage and promote the creative use of hand bells during worship

• To properly care for music and hand bells of the church


• Basic knowledge of hand bell ringing

• Creativity and innovation are needed to establish an enthusiastic, positive environment
for ringers with differences in ability, personality, learning, and motivation

• Leadership & organizational skills for planning rehearsals and setting realistic goals
