People who don’t know David well might believe choir members who have described David as a musical prodigy, a stern task master, and an intimidating figure. But the truth is that David is a cat lover, he is a frequent Facebook poster, and his favorite musical season is Christmas. He has an infectious sense of humor. He loves the moment on Christmas Eve when all is quiet, but the energy of anticipation bubbles up, and then “O Come All Ye Faithful” emerges as warm and glowing as candle light. He loves what everyone loves, “all the familiar music that everyone knows and can sing with abandon, the sense of togetherness.”
Our maestro, who plays Bach and Brahms on the organ on Sunday mornings and directs the Senior Choir, is a graduate of New England Conservatory with two master of music degrees, one in organ and the other in choral conducting. He has served on the faculties of New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory and Wellesley College.
In addition to his work at Village Church, David also serves as Music Director of The Newton Choral Society and of Temple Shalom of Newton.
