Wellesley Village Church Bio for Wonderful Weekend by Sue Jung Grant:

In a day when many mainline churches are turning off their lights, Wellesley Village Church, a 1,400-member congregation of the United Church of Christ, has commemorated its 225th anniversary, a year marked by breakthroughs and expansion. Under the leadership of senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Sarah Butter, the church, the largest congregational church in New England, has observed three milestones of growth in this jubilee year.

  • Committing to an expanded Village Table volunteer program to prepare and deliver more than 600 fresh meals per month to shelters, community fridges, pantries, and those in need throughout Boston and the Metro West area
  • Raising over $1 million to help sister church Charles Street AME in Roxbury rise up from under onerous mortgage debt
  • Merging with the Congregational Church of Weston and creating a united congregation that now sits on two Village Church campuses

Wellesley Village Church draws in more than 540 families from Needham, Natick, Newton, Wayland, Waltham, and Weston, in addition to Wellesley, who are looking for inspiration, comfort and spiritual connection in an open and affirming community. Children’s church, youth group, choir and music, and adult programs offer ways to connect, reflect and grow.

Village Church in Wellesley has worked as a partner with numerous organizations in town, including the Wellesley Rotary Club, which has been a major sponsor of Village Table, and the Wellesley Chinese Language School, which makes its home at the church.

Village Church (Wellesley and Weston) seeks to live out its vision as an open and affirming church, where all newcomers are welcome every day: Choose love. Make it real.
